The NDSA Leadership Team is pleased to share a summary of activities that occurred across the organization in October 2026, as well as highlight past and upcoming activities, which can also be found on the calendar. If you are looking to catch up, you can read the September update.

NDSA is working to keep the listserv current with members and as a result, email addresses which bounce back will be removed from the list. You can always sign-up for the updated list at any time with your name and current email address. NDSA also has Slack available to members. Sign-up to view channels devoted to specific interest groups or job announcements.

Coordinating Committee Election

The 2026 election for new Coordinating Committee members to begin service in 2027 has concluded with Palash Bosgang, Kathryn Michaelis, and Este Pope elected. Find out more at the Announcing the New NDSA Coordinating Committee Members for 2027-2029 blog post.

NDSA Digital Preservation 2026 Conference

The conference was held virtually on November 4-5, 2026 and all session recordings will be uploaded for free and open access to the NDSA YouTube channel in the coming weeks, while session slides will be added to Zenodo.

Organizational Transition Updates

NDSA Leadership has drafted a charge for a Financial Sustainability Task Force to review the previous documents and data that have been produced about this topic and to synthesize this information into a cogent set of recommendations for how the organization should proceed to ensure ongoing viability. The charge is being reviewed and edited to ensure the work is appropriately and sustainably scoped.

Working and Interest Group Updates

  • The Climate Watch Working Group is finalizing their next newsletter as well as some updates talking about how they engage in their work.
  • The Excellence Awards Working Group is putting together a call for new members and is finalizing the judging rubric and supporting questionnaire to be used in the 2027 awards cycle.
  • The Standards and Practices Interest Group held a meeting on October 19 on the topic of “fire drills” in digital preservation - testing out workflows before there is an emergency.
  • The Web Archiving Survey Working Group is in the final stages of editing the report with feedback from the Communications and Publications Working Group.
